Meet Our Teachers
Experienced. Nurturing. Joyful.
At King Street, our teachers bring more than expertise—they bring presence, purpose, and joy. Every day, they guide children through big questions, big feelings, and big discoveries with care and curiosity.
Our teaching team is deeply experienced in early childhood education and passionate about play-based learning. They create environments that are responsive, inclusive, and empowering—where children are known, respected, and celebrated.
What makes our teachers special:
They build trusting, collaborative relationships with each child and family
They guide with warmth, intention, and respect
They observe closely, listen deeply, and teach responsively
Ami Huja
Lead Teacher, Head of Curriculum
I have been a teacher at King Street Cooperative since 2010, when my own children attended the school. Year after year, I continue to be moved by the importance and depth of this work. Across the many roles I’ve held, my core focus has remained the same: creating a sense of community and belonging for children and their families. Parenting can be an isolating experience and King Street can provide much-needed connection during these years of intense growth and development for a family.
My background is in fine art, commercial and journalistic photography. A career shift to early childhood education allowed me to merge my artistic foundation with a new purpose.
Originally from Hawaiʻi and raised in a multicultural household with a Sikh father, I bring my own culture and experience to the classroom. I have a passion for social justice and fierce commitment to King Street's anti-bias, play based, child centered and family friendly pillars.
I believe that truly impactful education begins with natural curiosity and deep, personal connections. King Street provides a rich environment to provoke curiosity and wonder in children. As teacher, I guide their work of collaboration, self expression, autonomy and compassion.
Maggie Darlow
Lead Teacher, Executive Director
I have been working with young children for over 20 years. My first experience with co-op preschool was as a parent when my oldest child was two years old. I loved it so much, I decided to center my career around co-op! I appreciate the connections and opportunities that co-op gives to kids and adults.
Prior to my work in preschool, I had a career in biological sciences. I use my love of science to foster inquisitive and creative problem solving in children. I believe in letting children explore their world and know children learn best when they construct their own experiences.
I believe children have a inherent sense of fairness and empathy, which can be guided toward a lifelong love of promoting social justice. I see my main role as teacher as helping children develop their ability to name and manage their emotions and create meaningful connections with their peers and community.
