Our Programs
At King Street, learning grows with your child.
We offer play-based programs for children ages 1 to 5, including a toddler-and-caregiver class, a multi-age preschool, and an optional Friday enrichment day for older preschoolers. Each class is rooted in child-led exploration, guided by skilled teachers, and supported by a caring cooperative community.
You choose your child(ren)’s schedule, and can mix and match the days that work best for you and your family.
Co-op Hybrid Model
While our school primarily operates on a co-operative model, we do offer a Full Preschool Day option as well. This allows grownups to opt for 100% drop-off days for your child(ren) instead of working classroom shifts. Each family still receives a family job, attends monthly community meetings, and contributes to fundraising efforts. Please see our Co-operative Model page for additional information.
Preschool Program
Ages 2–5 | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday
Our preschool classrooms are joyful, multi-age communities where children explore, create, and connect. Each day includes long stretches of free play, group time, and outside adventures—all guided by experienced teachers and supported by co-op families.
At King Street, preschoolers don’t sit still—they build, stomp, paint, investigate, ask questions, and play hard. And while they’re doing it, they’re developing the skills that matter most: emotional awareness, social confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Preschoolers at KSCP...
Build social skills through long stretches of free play
Learn to solve problems with empathy and confidence
Express big feelings and ideas through movement, storytelling, and art
Engage in emergent curriculum that follows their interests
Experience community with consistent caregivers and peers
Note: Tuesdays are geared towards children age 4 and younger. Please read about our Toddler Program below for more information.

Here’s a typical day in our multi-age preschool classroom (ages 2–5):
9:00–9:15 – Arrival & Free Indoor Play
9:15–10:30 – Indoor Free Play (plus optional snack from 9:30-10:00AM)
10:30–10:40 – Group Put Away
10:40–11:00 – Indoor Circle Time (reading, songs, dance)
11:00–12:10 – Outside Play
12:10–12:30 – Put Away, Goodbye Circle & Dismissal
Schedules may shift slightly depending on the day or class size, but all preschool sessions follow this general rhythm.
-
A grown up from each preschool family participates in the classroom about ⅓ of the days your child attends. You’ll help with play, snack, and transitions. No teaching experience required!
Each family also takes on a co-op role, like photographer or maintenance helper. Evening parent meetings are held monthly for learning, community building, and planning.
We welcome all kinds of grown-ups -parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, nannies, or other trusted caregivers. Everyone who participates in the classroom completes a background check to help keep our school safe and inclusive.
We know every family is different, and we’re here to support you in finding a balance that works.
-
There’s no perfect age or checklist for starting preschool. We welcome children as young as two, and our mixed-age classrooms support a wide range of readiness.
Children do not need to be potty trained to join. We support every child at their developmental stage — whether that’s learning to use the toilet, practicing separation from a caregiver, or trying out new forms of independence.
If your child is curious, active, and ready to explore the world a little more, we’re ready for them.
Friday Enrichment
Ages 3.5–5 | Friday
Children ages 3.5 to 5 have the option to attend on Fridays, which include a slightly longer day (until 1:00pm) and more structured experiences like small group activities, packed lunch, and monthly Nature Days in local parks.
-
Friday classes run from 9:00am–1:00pm and are only available to children ages 3.5–5. The extended time includes:
9:00–9:30 – Arrival & Free Indoor Play
9:30–10:20 – Free Indoor Play or Group Projects
10:20–10:30 – Group Put Away
10:30–10:50 – Indoor Circle Time
10:50–11:30 – Packed Lunch
11:30–12:45 – Outside Exploration
12:45–1:00 – Goodbye Circle & Dismissal -
Aside from the extended schedule, Friday is a smaller, mixed-age class focused on deeper exploration and connection. Activities may include collaborative art, nature journaling, small group problem-solving, or extended building projects.
We eat lunch together (each child brings bagged lunch from home), which encourages social learning and mealtime independence.
-
Once a month, the Friday class heads off-site for a Nature Day in a local park. Families help drive and participate, and children spend the morning exploring, playing, and observing the natural world.
We go outside rain or shine (with warm gear and backup plans if needed!). Nature Days help kids build resilience, wonder, and a strong connection to the outdoors.
Toddler Program
Ages 12–24 months+ | Tuesday

Our toddler classes are a warm, welcoming introduction to school for young children and their caregivers. Together, you’ll explore play-based activities, build early routines, and form strong social-emotional foundations – all with the support of an experienced teacher.
Children up to aged 4 attend Tuesday, so your child can observe and benefit from a mixed-age classroom.
In our toddler program, you’ll find...
A predictable, comforting rhythm
Opportunities for sensory play, music, movement, and art
A community of caregivers to learn and grow with
Gentle support for early separation and transitions

A typical day looks like:
9:00–10:30 – Arrival, Free Play, and Optional Snack
10:30–10:40 – Circle Time & Goodbye for ToddlersChildren over 2 years old participate in Tuesday class like a Preschool program day: sometimes their parents stay and work a shift, other days they are dropped off. For these kids, class play continues until 12:30pm, like the Monday/Wednesday/Thursday schedule.

In our toddler program, co-op participation is gentle and low-pressure. Caregivers stay for the entire class (until 11am) and support their child throughout the day, while also connecting with teachers and other adults.
Many families find the toddler class to be the perfect introduction to co-op life.
-
Caregivers stay for the full class, making it a supportive experience for both children and grownups. The schedule is intentionally shorter to accommodate morning naps and early bedtimes.
It’s a gentle, play-based introduction to school and a wonderful way to ease into the co-op model at a pace that works for your family.
